Four Mile is one of the oldest ghost towns and is located 4 miles west of Custer, SD on Highway 16. The postal record for 4 mile shows the name and location of the last ghost town of Moss City.

The Moss Family came to the Black Hills from New York, where they were engaged in precious metals. The postal record shows the town of 100 expected to grow to 200. The number would indicate men since women and children did not count a that time.

Today, Four Mile is operated as an old west or ghost town with 40 buildings showing the history, humor, and horse sense of an era gone by.
